How Metal Injection Moulding works
Feedstock Preparation:
The MIM process begins by mixing metal powders with a polymer binder to form a mixture called ‘feedstock’.
Injection moulding:
Prepared feedstock is injected into a mould by an injection moulding machine, similar to the plastic injection moulding process.
Degreasing
After the green part is removed from the mould, the binder is gradually removed through a degreasing process.
Sintering:
Sintering at high temperatures, usually close to the melting point of the metal material, usually between 1100°C and 1400°C.
Post-processing:
Examples include polishing, heat treating, or surface coating to improve product performance or achieve higher dimensional accuracy. If required, the part can be precision machined or given a secondary heat treatment to improve mechanical properties.
Advantages of Metal Injection Moulding
High Complexity: MIM is capable of producing complex shapes, thin-walled structures, and parts with extremely high detail accuracy, which is difficult to achieve with traditional machining processes.
High material utilisation: MIM is a Near-Net-Shaping process that reduces material waste compared to cutting (material removal).
Mass production economics: Multiple identical or different parts can be produced in a single injection, making it suitable for volume production.
Wide range of material options: MIM can use a wide range of metal materials, such as stainless steel, iron-based alloys, titanium alloys, copper alloys, etc., suitable for a variety of application scenarios.
Areas of application
Consumer electronics: such as precision metal parts in smartphones, watches.
Medical devices: such as dental tools, surgical instruments, implants, etc.
Automotive industry: such as engine components, fuel injection system parts.
Aerospace: such as precision avionics components.
Military and weapons: such as gun parts and ammunition parts.

FAQ:
Are you a manufacturer or a trading company?
We are the set design, development, production, sale, and service of industry and trade-oriented enterprises, dedicate to precision CNC machining services customized for non-standard products.
2. Can I get a quote without drawings?
Sure, we appreciate receiving your samples, pictures, or drafts with detailed dimensions for an accurate quotation.
3. Will my drawings be divulged if you benefit?
No, we pay much attention to protecting our customers' privacy, and signing NDA are also accepted if needed.
4. How do you control the quality?
(1) Material inspection--Check the material surface and rough dimensions.
(2) Production first inspection--To ensure the critical dimension in mass production.
(3) Sampling inspection--Check the quality before sending it to the warehouse.
(4) Pre-shipment inspection--100% inspected by QC before shipment.
5. How do I know the progress of my order?
We will offer a detailed product schedule and send weekly reports with digital pictures and videos which show the machining progress.
6. What will you do if we receive poor-quality parts?
Please kindly send us the pictures, our engineers will find the solutions and remake them for you asap.
