What is DLC Coating

DLC coating, short for Diamond-Like Carbon Coating, is an amorphous thin film coating composed of carbon elements. It consists of Sp3 (diamond-like) and Sp2 (graphite-like) carbon bond structures, so it has hardness close to diamond, exCEllent wear resistance, and very good lubricating properties.

Advantages of DLC Coating

High hardness: The hardness can reach HV2000–3800.

Low friction coefficient: The friction coefficient is as low as 0.05–0.2. It has self-lubricating properties and can effectively reduce friction loss.

Good corrosion resistance: It has excellent chemical inertness and is resistant to corrosion from acids, alkalis, and organic solvents, allowing it to maintain stable performance in harsh environments.

Biocompatibility: It is non-toxic to biological tissues and can be used in medical devices and biomedical fields, such as artificial joints and surgical tools.

Thermal stability: Hydrogenated DLC coatings can be used for a long time below 350 °C. Some types (such as Ta-C) can withstand higher temperatures (450 °C–500 °C).

Hydrogenated DLC coatings have good electrical insulation properties.

Applicable Materials for DLC

DLC Deposition Process

DLC coatings are usually prepared by Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) or Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD). Common methods include magnetron sputtering, ion beam deposition, and Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD). These methods control the energy of carbon ions and deposition conditions to achieve precise coating control and performance optimization.

Shenzhen Pans Technology has long focused on customized non-standard parts machining and can provide various surface treatment solutions according to customer needs, including advanced processes such as DLC coating. Relying on a stable supply chain and mature machining capabilities, we are committed to providing customers with high-quality and high-performance precision components.
