Tool Setting Methods for the 850 Series CNC Machining Center

2024-10-16

After tool installation, the 850 machining center must perform tool setting to determine the starting point position before executing the machining program. Tool setting can often be a headache for operators, being time-consuming and labor-intensive, especially when multiple tools are involved, as they require tool compensation values. Shenzhen Pans has several high-precision 850 series CNC machining centers and shares the following common tool setting methods:

1. Using a Homemade Tool Setting Block

A simple tool setting block made from plastic or acrylic can facilitate convenient repeat positioning after tool grinding. However, the positioning accuracy is relatively poor, typically within 0.2 to 0.5 mm. Despite this limitation, it remains a fast positioning method, allowing for quick adjustments afterward.

2. Manual Jogging Method

By pressing the jog key on the 850 machining center control panel, the tool tip can be lightly touched against the surface of the workpiece. The counter is then reset, and the tool is retracted to the desired initial position, where it is reset again to establish the tool's starting position. This process is repeated for each tool, and after trial machining, adjustments can be made to achieve the precise design position.

3. Using CNC Tool Setters

After initial tool positioning on the 850 machining center, tools may require sharpening due to wear over time, which alters the tool tip position upon reinstallation. The 850 machining center can utilize tool setters, which may include self-measuring devices. Although their operation can be complex and requires preparation time, they are suitable for efficiently measuring multiple tools.
