Advantages of Wire EDM

  • Precision and Accuracy: It is known for producing parts with extremely tight tolerances, often within +/- 0.0001 inches. This level of precision is critical for industries such as aerospace, medical, and tool and die making.
  • Complex Geometries: This method can create complex shapes that are difficult or impossible to achieve with traditional machining processes. These include sharp inside corners, intricate patterns and detailed contours.
  • Material Versatility: It can cut any conductive material, including hard metals such as titanium and hardened tool steel, without stressing or distorting the material.
  • Smooth Surface Finish: The process typically requires little to no post-processing because it achieves a smooth surface of Ra 16 micro inches. This reduces overall production time and cost.
  • Non-Contact Cutting: Since the wire is never in physical contact with the part, no cutting forces are generated, eliminating mechanical stresses during the process. This feature is especially beneficial for fragile or thin-walled parts.

Fields of application of wire-cutting

1.Mold Manufacturing

Mold processing is one of the most important applications of WEDM technology, especially suitable for processing molds with high precision and complex geometry. Molds include injection molds, stamping molds, drawing molds and die casting molds.

Advantage: WEDM can process very complex mold cavities, grooves, pilot holes, etc., and can maintain very high precision, and is suitable for processing hard materials, such as high-speed steel, tungsten carbide and so on.

2. Aerospace
